Premium Gasoline - Is It Worth The Money

Many of us are told by the auto manufactures that we have to use premium gasoline.  But is that really true?  Find out what the auto manufactures don’t want you to know.

Why are we told that we have to use premium gasoline in the first place?  Premium gasoline has a higher octane level than regular unleaded gasoline.  We are told that some engines with a higher compression ratio take advantage of the higher octane gas.  They are usually high performance engines and the higher octane gives the vehicle the maximum horsepower.

Premium fuel is also burns cleaner than regular unleaded gasoline.  But is it really worth the added expense?  I mean is it worth the extra 30-50 cents to get a cleaner burning gasoline?

The answer is maybe.  I know that may seem like a cop out but let me explain.  Engine technology today is far more advanced than it was.  The computers in our vehicles today can usually make the necessary adjustments based on the gas that you put in your tank.  That means, you may be able to get away with using regular unleaded gasoline even if you were told to only use premium fuel.

Now I don’t want to say that the car manufacturers are wrong but the best way to know for sure is to try it out on your car.  The next time you fill up your car and want to save money on gas, try using regular unleaded gasoline and see how it runs.  You may lose a little horsepower, but most people barely notice the difference.  Also keep track of your gas mileage and expenses.  Once you have tested a couple of tanks figure out what you spent per mile using regular unleaded and compare it to using premium.

Another thing you may want to consider is using a product that can boost your octane level.  You get the same benefits of using premium gasoline without the added cost.

Don’t be afraid to try different things to boost your gas mileage and your vehicles engine performance.  It may be to your benefit to do the opposite of what the auto manufactures tell you to do but that is up to you to decide.
